About Mercedes European Certificate of Conformity
-
What is a Mercedes Certificate of Conformity (Mercedes COC)?
The Mercedes Certificate of Conformity, or Mercedes COC, is an official manufacturer's certificate confirming that your Mercedes vehicle complies with European Union (EU) standards. This COC contains all the information required for registration, including:
- Chassis number (VIN)
- Vehicle category, weight, number of seats, colour, version
- CO2 emissions
- Engine power, transmission type and maximum speed
- Fuel consumption, engine capacity and noise level
The Mercedes European Certificate of Conformity contains more than 52 technical specifications required by the European Union to facilitate vehicle registration.
Why do you need a Mercedes COC?
This document is required for the first-time registration of a new vehicle, or when importing or exporting your vehicle to or from the European Union. Government agencies require motorists to provide this document as proof that the vehicle has been approved. Every Mercedes COC is issued by the Mercedes approval department.
New Mercedes vehicles usually come with a free Certificate of Conformity. For a used Mercedes or if the COC has been lost, you will need to order a replacement Mercedes COC.
A Mercedes Certificate of Conformity is required for:
- Importing a Mercedes into an EU country, Switzerland, Norway or the United Kingdom
- Exporting a Mercedes to another EU member state
- Registering a Mercedes in another European country
- Correcting your Mercedes registration certificate
